Anurag Singh
Anurag Singh, born on 24th April 1971, is a seasoned Indian politician and a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Uttar Pradesh. He currently serves as the elected Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Chunar constituency in the Mirzapur district. Representing the people of Chunar for the second consecutive term, Anurag Singh has earned a reputation for being a dedicated public servant with a vision for sustainable development, youth empowerment, and transparent governance.
Hailing from a politically influential family, Anurag Singh is the son of Om Prakash Singh, a former State President of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and a senior cabinet minister in the state government under Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. This strong political lineage instilled in Anurag a deep understanding of leadership, responsibility, and service from an early age.
Belonging to a Kurmi family rooted in Mirzapur, Anurag’s early education was completed in Varanasi, where he laid the foundation of his academic and ideological growth. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from DAV College, Varanasi, and went on to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Bundelkhand University, equipping him with a sharp administrative and analytical edge—traits that later played a significant role in his political and organizational responsibilities.
Anurag Singh’s association with socio-political organizations began early. In 1989, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a swayamsevak, a journey that shaped his nationalist outlook and discipline. In 1990, he took on the role of “Mukhya Shikshak” within RSS and later joined Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), where he served as Vice President of the DAV unit. His early involvement in student politics laid the groundwork for a future rooted in public service and youth leadership.
Throughout his career, Anurag Singh has remained committed to the values of the BJP and has actively contributed to strengthening the party’s base in eastern Uttar Pradesh. His deep connection with the grassroots and his ability to resonate with the common people have made him a respected figure in his constituency.

- Defeated Samajwadi Party’s Jagtamba Singh Patel in 2017 with a remarkable margin of 62,228 votes.
- Again won in 2022 against Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) and SP alliance candidate Ramashankar Prasad Singh by 47,614 votes.
- Initiated and supported several road, electricity, and water supply projects in both rural and urban areas of the constituency.
- Facilitated better access to primary healthcare services and helped improve facilities in government hospitals and clinics.

The turning point came in 2017, when he contested and won the Chunar assembly seat with an overwhelming majority. His journey was not without setbacks. The 2009 parliamentary election was a learning curve, highlighting the importance of timing, preparation, and strategic alignment. But far from being discouraged, he took this as a stepping stone and reoriented his efforts toward building a stronger presence in state politics.
